Welcome to my blog!
Let me begin by explaining a few things.
What need of further lies?
The title comes from a poem written by Kipling in entitled “Ulster 1912” the third stanza of which reads:
The blood our fathers spilt
Our love, our toils, our pains,
Are counted us for guilt,
And only bind our chains.
Before an Empire’s eyes,
The traitor claims his prize.
What need of further lies?
We are the sacrifice.
I chose this title for my blog because I was fed up with the half truths, spin and down right lies fed to us by the media and politicians.
“Rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil”?
It’s a quote from Romans chapter 13. I live in Northern Ireland but don’t believe that the terrorists of Sinn Fein/IRA should have a place in the government of my country.
Who is Hanson?
On Ulster Day, 28th September 1912 Rev D. H. Hanson preached a sermon in Gardenmore Presbyterian Church:
You and I stand where we do today and have what we have today because of those who, in other days, refused to be bound by enactments of state which were antagonistic to their religion and to their liberty. Often they were in the minority, but they never flinched from their position. It was said to them, as it was said to Athanasius – “All the world is against you” and they replied as he did, “Then we are against the world”.
I will be signing my entries using Rev Hanson’s name. I know nothing about him other than the passage quoted above but was very impressed by it and it seemed to sum up where I feel myself to be at the moment.
What do you want to tell us about yourself?
1. I believe that Northern Ireland should remain part of the UK,
2. I believe that Northern Ireland should be governed by democrats in a democratic fashion.
Any true democracy must (a) have an opposition as well as a government and (b) exclude terrorists from office and
3. I believe that if devolution for my wee country can only be attained in partnership with Sinn Fein/IRA the right conclusion is that devolution is not desirable at the moment.
That’s all I want to say at the moment. Perhaps I will tell you more about myself anon.
I hope you enjoy my blog. Perhaps, as you and others read its contents, I will win one or two other people over to my way of thinking!
I would love to here from both those who agree and disagree with me.
Your,
Hanson.
